Sewing is the process that makes the bookbinding stronger. Binding a book is also possible without sewing but to strengthen the binding, books sewing services are used. At MilanPOD, we have a dedicated sewing machine and technician for the perfect results.
Sewn books are always proved as strong and have a long-lasting life.
Smyth Sewn Binding
It is the process of sewing where folded pages groups are stitched together using threads and then each folded group of pages is sewn together with stitches using a machine individually and create a complete book block. In Smyth sewn binding, one can see stitches of threads in between the fold of each group of pages. This is the best sewing as it comes with high quality and resistance. Very less wear and tear on this. Mostly used for journals or the books where the pages lay flat.
Side Sew Binding
In this side sewing, the sewing is done by inserting a wire by the side of the signature (page folded as booklet size) from front to the back, just near the spine of the book. This method is more durable than saddle stitching as this has the ability to stitch more pages due to the wire. Side sew binding has a con which makes it replaced by other techniques that are the side stitched books cannot be open completely as it binds near the spine.
Center Sewn Binding
It was the most common sewing technique and is done by a traditional sewing machine. The collated printed pages are sewn by the machines and then packed and sent for binding (hard or perfect binding) Well, this binding has certain advantages over others. Unlike, side sew binding, the books can be open completely and durability is also high.
Sew glue on Cover
To strengthen the Smyth Sewn Binding, glue is used for the maximum protection from wear tear of the book with a soft cover and later on, other bindings are performed on that glued sewing packed with softcover book pages.
